Bachelor of Laws

Adelaide University's single Bachelor of Laws is a 96-unit, four-year AQF Level 7 degree: half core, half elective, but with real constraints on when students can take the elective half. No more than 9 units can be taken at Level I, and a minimum of 12 units is reserved for Level III, so students can't front-load easy electives early and coast.

Of the 48 elective units, 36 must be law electives, leaving 12 units as genuinely broadening electives students can take from outside the law school, such as a language, a science course, or a business elective, depending on interest. That's a deliberate design choice distinguishing the single LLB from Adelaide's various double-degree law combinations (Arts, Business, International Relations), which restructure the unit split differently and run longer.

The degree meets the requirements set by the Legal Practitioners Education and Admission Council of South Australia for admission to legal practice, subject to completing Practical Legal Training after graduation. Career paths span solicitor, barrister, in-house counsel, and policy roles, and a meaningful share of graduates go on to further postgraduate study rather than practising law directly.
