Bachelor of Arts

The Bachelor of Arts at Adelaide University runs on a two-major structure: every student picks two of the 26 available majors, from long-standing options like English, History, and Politics to newer additions such as Digital Humanities and Criminology. Each major is built from eight courses across three years (two in first year, three in second, three in third), so switching or adding a major stays a genuine option rather than paperwork.

Running alongside the majors is a University Common Core: three interdisciplinary courses spread across the degree rather than front-loaded, plus three Work Integrated Learning courses (Professional Pathways and Destinations 1 and 2, and a final-year Internship in Society and Culture) that push students into placements, portfolio work, or applied projects tied to their chosen field.

No two Arts degrees look quite the same in practice; a History/Politics combination reads very differently to a Creative Writing/Film Studies one, and the university markets that flexibility as the point rather than a limitation. Career paths span journalism, policy and government, publishing, and education, with a meaningful share of graduates going on to postgraduate study in law, teaching, or their chosen discipline.
