Bachelor of Psychology

Adelaide University's Bachelor of Psychology builds on twelve core psychology courses common to every specialisation in the suite (Cognitive Neuroscience, Counselling and Interpersonal Skills, and the general stream), meaning students can defer choosing a specialisation without falling behind, since the differentiation mostly happens in fourth-year honours options.

From 2026, progression to the fourth (honours) year requires a GPA of at least 6.0 across all psychology core courses completed in years one to three. That's a real bar, not a formality, and the university is explicit that not everyone clears it. Students who don't can still graduate with the three-year Bachelor of Psychology, or apply separately for the one-year stand-alone Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) or the Graduate Diploma in Psychology (Advanced) as alternate routes.

The degree is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council, a prerequisite for eventually registering as a psychologist in Australia. Career paths before further study include research assistant, human resources, and community services roles; full registration as a psychologist requires completing honours plus supervised postgraduate training or a further accredited program.
