About this program
Adelaide University's Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (Honours) is a four-year AQF Level 8 degree built around a common first two years of mathematics, mechanics, and design fundamentals shared with other engineering streams, before students specialise into civil-specific coursework in structures, geotechnics, water engineering, and transportation.
From third year, students choose a major (Construction Management, Environmental Engineering, Renewable Energy, or Structures and Infrastructure) or add a minor in Defence Systems, Entrepreneurship, or Humanitarian Engineering, so the same base degree can point toward quite different careers: site engineer on a construction crew, dam safety analyst, or renewables project developer.
Fourth year centres on an honours research project run more like a live consulting engagement than a purely theoretical thesis. A real client, either an industry partner or an academic researcher, sets the brief, and students work through feasibility, concept design, and detailed design stages. Adelaide University lists graduate destinations including structural engineer, geotechnical engineer, water resources engineer, transport engineer, and construction manager, and the degree is accredited by Engineers Australia to Washington Accord standard for professional registration.
