Clinical hours are the headline number here: at least 800 hours of professional experience across five placements, spanning aged care, community nursing, high dependency, medical/surgical, mental health, paediatrics, palliative care and perioperative settings, a genuinely broad spread compared to nursing degrees that concentrate placements in one or two specialty areas. The placements escalate in length as students progress: a two-week block in first year, three weeks in second year, and a six-week placement in the final year, which mirrors the way clinical confidence and responsibility should build over time.

Structurally, ACU embeds an Integrating Practice unit every semester rather than treating theory and placement as separate phases. The idea is that clinical reasoning gets reinforced consistently rather than crammed before each placement block.

Graduates register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via Ahpra and can go straight into hospital, community or aged-care roles; the breadth of the placement settings also means graduates aren't narrowly specialised on day one, which some new-grad hospital programs value when rotating nurses through different wards in their first year.
