Bachelor of Psychological Science
Australian Catholic University, Multi-campus (7 campuses, 5 states), Australia
About this program
This is the accreditation degree: ACU's Bachelor of Psychological Science carries APAC (Australian Psychology Accreditation Council) Level 1 accreditation, meaning it's the first rung of the standard psychology registration pathway. An honours year and postgraduate study still stand between graduates and registration as a psychologist, but this degree is the one that has to come first.
Core units run through foundations of psychology, applications of psychology and research design early on (PSYC100, PSYC101, PSYC110), building toward a distinctive third-year unit, Psychological Services Experience, where students log 25 hours of community engagement rather than sitting purely in lectures and labs. That's a deliberate attempt to get students into applied settings, such as schools and community organisations, before they've committed to a specific postgraduate specialisation.
Students who decide partway through that they want the faster honours-integrated route can look at ACU's separate Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), but the standard Psychological Science degree remains the more common entry point, especially for students combining it with Arts, Laws or Exercise and Sports Science as a double degree.
