Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours)

This is an 80-credit-point add-on year for students who've already completed a relevant bachelor's degree and hold at least a 5.0 GPA on ACU's seven-point scale, not a standalone four-year degree. The structure splits into coursework (including HLSC406 Research Methods in Biomedical and Health Sciences Research) and a research component worth either 20 or 40 credit points depending on the pathway chosen, with prerequisite units like SCIE403 or SCIE405 gating entry into the higher-research-weighted option.

The point of the year is to pair students with an academic supervisor and have them contribute to an actual area of research rather than complete another year of taught units, a deliberate bridge toward higher degree research (Masters by Research, PhD) for students who discover during their undergraduate degree that they want a research career in biomedical or health science rather than a purely clinical one.

Because it's a single honours year rather than a full degree, applicants are typically ACU biomedical science graduates staying on, though the pathway is open to graduates of equivalent degrees from other universities.
