Bachelor of Arts

Australian Catholic University, Multi-campus (7 campuses, 5 states), Australia

About this program

At 240 credit points, ACU's Bachelor of Arts gives students room to build a genuine major (80cp in one discipline) plus a minor (40cp) or a second major, drawing from disciplines that range from history and philosophy to global studies and theology. Because ACU runs Arts alongside so many double-degree combinations (Arts/Laws, Arts/Commerce, Psychological Science/Arts), the standalone BA tends to attract students who want breadth rather than a professional accreditation attached to the degree itself.

One quirk worth knowing: students aren't restricted to units badged under "Arts." They can draw from units across ACU's Schedule of Unit Offerings, campus and prerequisites permitting, which in practice means a philosophy major can pick up business or education units as electives without switching degrees.

It's a degree that rewards students who already have a direction in mind (further study, teaching, writing, policy work) since it doesn't come with the built-in professional pathway of, say, nursing or paramedicine. The value is in the major chosen and what's built around it.
