Bachelor of Music (Performance)

Performance at AIM is built around weekly private lessons rather than group tuition as the spine of the degree. Performance Major units run as one-on-one instruction supported by a Performance Practice class of masterclasses, workshops, and seminars, so the individual teacher relationship, not a lecture theatre, is where most of the actual musical development happens.

Repertoire and technical demands escalate through the Performance Major sequence, but the degree also pushes students into collaboration outside their own instrument or voice, working with composition and Creative Technology students on new material rather than only performing established repertoire. Electives in entertainment management let performance students pick up the business side (booking, touring, artist management) without switching majors.

Entry requires a live audition or interview plus a portfolio of two live or recorded performances, a real filter reflecting AIM's position as an audition-based conservatoire rather than an open-entry university degree. AIM also runs a separate Classical strand of the Performance degree for students focused on that repertoire, distinct from the contemporary/commercial-leaning general Performance stream.
