Bachelor of Science (Psychology)

This is ANU's psychology degree structured through the science faculty rather than as a Bachelor of Psychology, which matters mostly for how first year is built: students do a genuine science foundation alongside the psychology sequence before specialising. Across the three years, ANU's Research School of Psychology teaches six core areas: developmental, social, personality, quantitative methods, cognition, and biological psychology, with the compulsory course list running from an introductory two-course sequence through advanced research methods and psychopathology in third year.

What separates this from a generic psych major is how seriously the methods content is taken. Quantitative Methods in Psychology and Advanced Research Methods are both compulsory, and ANU treats statistical literacy as core to the discipline rather than an optional add-on, which shows in how competitive the honours entry is afterward.

Students aiming at registration as a psychologist need the fourth-year honours program, which is genuinely selective (a strong GPA through the first three years is expected, not just a formality), and from there the standard pathway into a Masters or Doctorate in clinical, organisational, or forensic psychology. Students not planning to become registered psychologists still find the degree useful groundwork for HR, UX research, or policy roles given the heavy methods training.
