Master of Public Policy

Crawford School rebuilt its Master of Public Policy in 2015 from a one-year program into a two-year, 16-course structure, a deliberate lengthening that reflects Crawford's argument that a serious policy degree needs more than a single accelerated year, especially for the specialisation tracks it now offers. It sits inside the College of Asia and the Pacific, so the program carries a heavier Asia-Pacific and development-economics flavour than an MPP from, say, a Melbourne or Sydney school built around domestic Australian policy.

Students choose between a general MPP or one of several named specialisations: Contemporary Regulation, Economic Policy, Social Research Methods, and Regulation: National and International Regimes among them. The Contemporary Regulation specialisation is a genuine point of difference: compulsory foundation courses in regulatory theory followed by electives that range into disruptive technology regulation, global business regulation, restorative justice, and climate and health policy, an unusually wide net for what's often a narrower regulation label elsewhere.

Since 2024 all Crawford graduate courses run with both in-person and online options, though live attendance at scheduled sessions is still expected. That's useful for the significant share of MPP students who are current or former public servants studying while working, including a steady contingent of students sponsored by governments across the Asia-Pacific region.
