Bachelor of Accounting
Australian National University, Canberra, ACT, Australia
About this program
ANU's Bachelor of Accounting is a 144-unit, three-year degree run through the College of Business and Economics and built to satisfy the education requirements of CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants ANZ directly. A student who completes the required accounting course sequence graduates with the academic side of professional accreditation already handled, rather than needing bridging study afterward.
What differentiates it from a generic accounting degree is the amount of room left over: only 14 CBE courses (84 units) are mandatory, leaving up to 60 units for courses from other ANU colleges. A student can, and often does, pick up a genuine second interest (a data science sequence, a language, or international relations units) inside what still reads on the transcript as a single-focus accounting degree.
The compulsory sequence runs from foundational processes through to accounting theory in third year, covering both the technical mechanics (company accounting, management accounting) and the more conceptual side that shows up in CPA exam preparation later. ANU's Canberra location also means a disproportionate number of graduates land roles auditing or advising Commonwealth government entities, alongside the usual Big Four graduate program pipeline.
