Master of Education

Avondale's Master of Education is built for working teachers rather than career-changers. Every unit runs by distance, with a single Winter School each July drawing students back to the Lake Macquarie campus for a week of face-to-face intensives. That residential week matters more than it sounds: it's where the small cohort (Avondale's education postgrad numbers stay modest compared to the Group of Eight providers) actually meets in person, and where the program's Christian education strand gets taught alongside the research methodology core.

The degree suits teachers chasing a leadership track, a curriculum specialisation, or simply the credential bump for promotion within Adventist and independent school systems, where an Avondale postgrad carries particular weight. Because it's capped at eight units (48 credit points) and deliberately excludes a full-time pathway (Avondale is upfront that some units simply aren't offered often enough to support one), most candidates are two to three years into full-time teaching before they enrol, doing the degree one or two units a semester around a teaching load.
