Undergraduate

Bachelor of Science

Avondale University, Cooranbong, NSW, Australia

About this program

The standalone Bachelor of Science at Avondale is smaller than its BA counterpart in terms of enrolments, since several of the science disciplines (Biological Science, Chemistry, Food & Nutrition, Mathematics) are also offered as majors within the Bachelor of Arts. Students choosing the BS specifically want the science degree title, often because it reads better for graduate entry into health science postgraduate courses, dietetics, or laboratory-based careers.

Food & Nutrition is worth flagging as a genuine point of difference: it draws on Avondale's Adventist health heritage (the same institutional lineage that produced Sanitarium and its Weet-Bix brand a century ago) and is taught with a research base in lifestyle and preventive health rather than as a generic nutrition science unit bolted onto a chemistry-heavy degree. Students combining it with Biological Science are well placed for further study in dietetics or public health.
