About this program
The Juris Doctor is Bond's graduate-entry law degree for students who already hold an undergraduate qualification in any discipline and want to qualify for legal practice without repeating an LLB. The program is built on 240 credit points, and most students take four subjects a trimester, which at Bond's three-trimester pace typically brings the degree in at around two years rather than the three years a JD usually takes elsewhere.
Students complete a compulsory core of foundational law subjects, including constitutional law, contracts and criminal law, then select 70 credit points of electives, with the option to complete a formal Law Specialisation by taking at least four electives (40 credit points) within one subject area. Practical legal skills are woven through the degree rather than taught separately: legal writing, oral communication, negotiation, dispute resolution and professional ethics all sit inside the JD's integrated skills and professionalism strand. Graduates who also want to complete practical training requirements can continue directly into Bond's Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, meaning the whole path to admission as a legal practitioner can be finished at the one university.
