Bachelor of Psychological Science

This is CDU's APAC-accredited entry point into psychology: the degree that has to exist before an Honours year, before provisional registration, before any of the postgraduate paths toward clinical or organisational psychology. Because that accreditation constrains the curriculum tightly (APAC dictates a lot of the sequencing and content to meet national competency standards), CDU's version looks broadly similar to psych degrees at other Australian universities, but it opens with a Year 1 that explicitly folds in Indigenous protocols and intercultural sensitivity content alongside the usual introduction to psychology and research methods, a reflection of the practicum and research contexts students are likely to work in around Darwin and remote NT communities.

Across the degree, students work through roughly 24 standard subjects covering biological, cognitive, developmental, and social psychology, plus a heavy research methods and statistics load that culminates in an independent research project in third year. Graduates who want to continue toward registration as a psychologist need the Honours year (also APAC-accredited at CDU) or an equivalent postgraduate qualifying program; this bachelor's alone doesn't get you registration, which surprises some students who assume otherwise.

Students can also join the Australian Psychological Society as student members while still completing this degree, which gives earlier access to networking and CPD content than waiting until after graduation.
