Bachelor of Education (Primary)

CDU trains a disproportionate share of the Northern Territory's primary teachers, and the Bachelor of Education (Primary) is shaped by that reality: a strong First Nations education thread runs through the coursework because so many graduates end up teaching in schools with significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student populations, including remote community schools where CDU-trained teachers are often the most viable local supply pipeline.

The course covers Transition through Year 6/7 and is structured around 30 core units plus two specialist elective areas chosen from English, humanities, science, technology and mathematics, health and PE, or the Arts, letting students build some depth in a curriculum area they want to specialise in, without turning the degree into a secondary-style single-subject major. Professional experience placements run throughout the degree rather than being backloaded into final year, and online students complete placements at schools near where they live rather than having to relocate to Darwin, which is a meaningful accessibility factor given how spread out the NT population is.

Graduates meet the Australian Professional Standards for Graduating Teachers and are eligible for provisional registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory, with mutual recognition arrangements applying interstate.
