Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

Deakin's engineering degree is taught almost entirely out of Waurn Ponds in Geelong, a campus purpose-built around applied engineering and manufacturing research. The adjacent Carbon Nexus facility, one of the few pilot-scale carbon fibre production lines in the world outside Japan and Germany, gives the mechanical and materials-leaning specialisations a genuine industry-research flavour that's hard to find elsewhere in Australia. Students choose a specialisation (civil, environmental, electrical, renewable energy, mechanical, or mechatronics) partway through the course.

The degree is accredited by Engineers Australia and includes compulsory professional practice units around safety and project-based learning from first year, plus a substantial industry-based capstone project in the final year. Deakin also runs a parallel Bachelor of Engineering (Industry) (Honours) with built-in paid industry placements for students who want workplace experience baked into the structure rather than left to a single work-integrated-learning unit.
