About this program
Deakin's Bachelor of Arts is a genuinely flexible humanities degree: students pick two majors from a list spanning literature, history, politics, sociology, creative writing, and languages, rather than being funnelled into one fixed track, and the same degree structure runs across Burwood, Geelong and Cloud Campus online delivery. It's less a single defined program than a framework, which suits students who aren't sure yet which humanities discipline they want to specialise in.
A recurring theme in Deakin's arts teaching is linking coursework to employability early: most majors include at least one unit built around a real-world writing, research or communication project rather than purely essay-based assessment, and Deakin's careers-focused STP-coded employability units are compulsory across its degrees, arts included. Students can also add a diploma of languages or a study-abroad trimester without extending the degree, which is a genuine structural option rather than an add-on marketing line.
