Bachelor of Criminology

Deakin University, Melbourne/Geelong, VIC, Australia

About this program

Deakin's criminology program, taught mainly out of the Geelong Waurn Ponds and online cohorts within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, has built a reputation partly around Australian-context research into policing, youth justice and cybercrime rather than importing a US-textbook criminology curriculum wholesale. Students move from foundational theories of crime and justice into applied units on policing, corrections, and increasingly cybercrime and digital forensics, an area Deakin has invested in given its parallel strength in cyber security.

The degree is commonly combined with a second degree: Deakin offers formal double-degree pairings with Criminology plus Laws, Psychological Science, or Cyber Security, which is a genuine structural feature rather than marketing, since students in those combined degrees take a blended unit set rather than simply two separate degrees end to end. A work placement or research project unit toward the end of the single degree lets students test interests in policing, youth services, or policy work before graduating.
