Master of Business Administration

Federation University Australia, Ballarat, VIC, Australia

About this program

Federation's MBA runs out of its Business School with a Ballarat home base but a large international cohort studying the equivalent through Brisbane and offshore partners, and it's built as a 16-unit program rather than the leaner 12-unit MBAs some competitor universities now offer, meaning more coverage but also a longer runway, typically 24 months full-time for international students. Core content covers the standard MBA spine of accounting, finance, HR and marketing, but Federation lets students cross-pick electives from its other postgraduate business degrees (strategic marketing, business economics, entrepreneurship units), so two students can graduate with meaningfully different elective profiles.

The program doesn't chase the case-study prestige model of a G08 MBA; it's positioned more practically, aimed at working professionals and international students looking to build a generalist management credential with a manageable price point relative to Melbourne or Sydney options. A capstone strategy project in the final trimester asks students to work through a real organisational problem, often sourced from a regional Victorian business or the student's own employer.

There's also an MBA (International Business) variant that swaps some electives for trade and cross-cultural management content, reflecting the large proportion of international students who go through the Ballarat and Brisbane campuses.
