Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

Federation's engineering degree runs through its Gippsland campus and lets students choose between Civil, Mechanical, Mining or Electrical and Information Engineering streams, all under a single Engineers Australia-accredited honours degree. The Mining specialisation is worth noting specifically: Gippsland's location near Victoria's brown coal region and the university's long history training engineers for the Latrobe Valley power stations gives that stream an industry pipeline that's harder to replicate at a metro university.

What sets the course structure apart from a lot of engineering degrees is the compulsory 450-hour, 60-day paid industry placement built directly into the credit points rather than treated as an optional add-on students have to hunt down themselves. Federation's careers team has existing relationships with regional engineering firms and utilities, so placement isn't left entirely to the student's own networking.

Core content in the first two years is common across the specialisations (mechanics, materials, thermodynamics, engineering mathematics) before students split into their chosen stream for design-heavy, discipline-specific units.
