Bachelor of Education (Primary)

This is Federation's direct entry pathway into primary teaching, run out of Ballarat, Berwick and Gippsland campuses with a strong regional-and-outer-suburban placement network, a practical advantage for graduates, since Victorian country and growth-corridor schools are chronically short of primary teachers and often recruit straight out of prac. Students pick a specialisation partway through: English, Mathematics, Science, or an Inclusive Education stream focused on supporting kids with additional learning needs, and that choice shapes a chunk of the later-year electives.

The degree is built around supervised professional experience placements that increase in length and responsibility each year, culminating in a full-time final-year placement where students effectively run a classroom under a mentor teacher's supervision. Federation also builds in explicit test preparation for LANTITE, the national literacy and numeracy test that every intending teacher in Australia has to pass before their final placement. That hurdle trips up a meaningful number of otherwise capable education students, so having it addressed inside the curriculum rather than left to self-study is a real point in the course's favour.

Graduates come out with provisional registration eligibility with the Victorian Institute of Teaching, and the degree counts toward accreditation nationally through AITSL standards, so the qualification travels reasonably well if a graduate later moves interstate.
