Bachelor of Psychology (Honours)

For psychology students, the fourth honours year is the hinge point of an entire career pathway - it's the year that has to be APAC-accredited for graduates to have any shot at professional registration later, and admission into it is competitive, ranked on second- and third-year psychology grades from an already-accredited three-year sequence. Flinders' honours year combines advanced coursework with a substantial research thesis under individual supervision, which is a different rhythm from the coursework-heavy undergraduate years that precede it.

What the year actually leads to matters more than what's inside it: this isn't a terminal qualification for most students, but a bridge into Flinders' own Master of Professional Psychology or Master of Clinical Psychology, or equivalent postgraduate programs elsewhere, on the way to psychologist registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Students who complete the honours year but don't continue to a registration-track masters still come away with a research-intensive qualification that reads well for policy, HR or research assistant roles.

Because entry is competitive rather than automatic, the honours year functions as a genuine filter within the psychology pipeline - not everyone who wants to become a registered psychologist gets a place, which is worth knowing going in rather than discovering after three years of undergraduate study.
