Bachelor of Laws (Honours)

Fourth year is where this degree earns its "Honours" label - a dissertation plus three option topics, at least half of which have to be taken at honours or masters level, which is a meaningfully heavier research load than a standard three-year law degree tacks on. The option list itself skews toward areas Flinders' law school has built genuine research strength in: health law and medical negligence, technology law covering AI and data protection, plus the usual family, IP, insolvency and human rights options.

Clinical legal education runs through the Flinders Legal Advice Clinic, which gives students actual client-facing experience rather than purely simulated advocacy exercises, and there are separate work-integrated learning placements available for students who want supervised time in a legal practice setting before graduating. That combination - real clinic work plus optional practice placements - matters for graduates aiming at admission to practice, since it builds practical competency alongside the required units.

At 90 compulsory units plus the honours dissertation and options, this is a substantial four-year commitment, and the health law and technology law strands in particular reflect where Flinders has positioned its research and teaching focus relative to other South Australian law schools.
