Master of Public Health
Griffith University, Brisbane/Gold Coast, QLD, Australia
About this program
Griffith's MPH sits within the Menzies Health Institute Queensland research grouping, which gives the degree a noticeably strong lean toward chronic disease epidemiology and health services research relative to a public health program housed inside a standalone medical school. Griffith's public health researchers do a lot of work on obesity, diabetes, and Indigenous health outcomes specifically, and that shows up in elective choice and guest lecture content.
The cohort is genuinely international and mixed-career: working clinicians (nurses, allied health professionals, occasional doctors) doing the degree to move into policy or management roles sit alongside students coming straight from an undergraduate science or health degree with no clinical background at all, and Griffith structures the core sequence to be accessible to both without dumbing down the epidemiology and biostatistics content.
Students choose a specialisation stream (health promotion, epidemiology, or health management), and the practicum placement component, done with a health department, hospital, or NGO, is where the degree earns its practical reputation; Griffith's Queensland Health connections mean placements are relatively easy to secure compared to some interstate programs.
