Bachelor of Business
James Cook University, Townsville/Cairns, QLD, Australia
About this program
JCU's Bachelor of Business runs a broad first-year core across accounting, economics, management, marketing and business law before students choose a major, and the degree's location gives it a genuinely useful backyard for several of those majors. Tourism and hospitality management draws directly on Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef tourism economy, while agribusiness and international business majors connect to North Queensland's sugar, cattle and mining export industries. That's a different flavour of business degree from one built around a generic capital-city commercial economy.
Majors typically span accounting, management, marketing, human resource management, tourism, and international business, with students able to combine a major with a minor from a different discipline entirely, including the sciences given JCU's research strength there. Work-integrated learning and industry placement opportunities lean toward regional Queensland employers, tourism operators, agribusiness exporters, mining services companies, and local government, rather than the large-city corporate employers a Brisbane or Sydney business degree would typically funnel students toward.
Graduates commonly move into regional Queensland business roles across tourism, agribusiness and government, though the degree equally supports relocation to southern capital cities for students wanting broader corporate career markets.
