Bachelor of Business (Accounting)

Kaplan Business School, Multi-campus (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane), Australia

About this program

This is the accounting-major version of KBS's Bachelor of Business, and the accounting content only really kicks in once the shared foundation year is out of the way. The first five subjects (business communication, intro accounting, economics, commercial law, numerical analysis) are identical to every other Bachelor of Business student at KBS, and the single Level 200 core (governance, ethics and sustainability) is also shared. What makes this a genuine accounting degree rather than a business degree with an accounting flavour is the block of electives students are steered toward at Level 200 and 300: financial accounting, management accounting, taxation law, auditing, and corporate law units that map onto what CPA Australia and CA ANZ expect to see for graduates seeking a pathway into the CPA Program or CA ANZ's professional entry route.

Students who complete this major and want to go further don't have to leave KBS to do it: the school's Master of Accounting picks up where this degree leaves off and carries its own accreditation from CPA Australia, CA ANZ and ACCA, so a student can plan a five-year run from school leaver to professionally accredited accountant without changing institutions. That continuity matters more here than in some of the school's other majors, since accounting is one of the few fields where the professional body's unit-mapping requirements genuinely shape what gets taught rather than the university choosing freely.

Like the rest of the Bachelor of Business suite, the degree runs on trimesters (nine trimesters, 24 subjects, three years full-time) with five intakes a year, and the two Level 300 internship subjects give accounting-track students a chance to sit inside a firm before graduating rather than only after.
