Master of Accounting

Kaplan Business School, Multi-campus (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane), Australia

About this program

KBS built the Master of Accounting with triple accreditation in mind: CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and ACCA all recognise it, which for an international student cohort matters more than it might for domestic-only accounting programs, since it gives graduates a credential that's portable if they end up practising outside Australia. At 16 subjects across six trimesters (two years full-time), it's a heavier load than the school's other master's degrees, reflecting how much technical ground a professionally accredited accounting qualification has to cover: financial and management accounting, financial reporting, auditing and assurance, corporations law, taxation law, and a dedicated accounting information systems unit.

What's distinctive is how far the elective list leans into analytics rather than traditional accounting electives: students choosing from strategic management accounting, data visualisation, data acquisition and management, AI and machine learning, and business analytics project management, alongside a more conventional internship option. That reflects a broader shift in how accounting firms hire: the analytics-minded electives are clearly there to produce graduates who can sit inside a Big Four or mid-tier firm's advisory or analytics practice, not just its audit or tax compliance teams.

The capstone, Accounting and Governance, closes the degree by pulling the technical subjects together into governance and reporting judgement calls rather than pure technical computation. It's the kind of synthesis a CPA or CA ANZ pathway expects graduates to demonstrate before they're considered ready for the professional program's practical experience requirements.
