Master of Business Administration

Kaplan Business School, Multi-campus (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane), Australia

About this program

Kaplan Business School runs its MBA on a trimester clock rather than the semester rhythm most Australian universities use, so a full-time student can finish 12 subjects in two years across six trimesters spread over campuses in Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, plus an online cohort for anyone juggling the degree around a job. The six core subjects lean toward the interpersonal and interpretive side of management: leadership, governance and ethics, financial and economic literacy for non-finance managers, consumer psychology, and a cross-cultural intelligence unit that reflects how much of the cohort tends to be international postgraduates working alongside local managers already in industry.

What separates it from a generic MBA is the elective architecture. Rather than a single fixed specialisation, students pick six electives (or condense that to three plus a three-subject specialisation block) from a list that spans dynamic strategy, entrepreneurship, international business, digital marketing, project management, healthcare and tourism management, and an internship placement. KBS picked up a PIEoneer award in 2020 for its approach to flexible content delivery, and the specialisation model is really an extension of that: eight named specialisation tracks, from Data-driven Leadership to Women in Leadership, let two people graduate with the same base MBA and quite different transcripts.

The degree closes with a capstone strategy subject that asks students to work a live business problem end to end, drawing on the core units rather than treating strategy as an abstract elective. For students who already hold significant industry experience, Recognition of Prior Learning can shorten the path, which matters for a program whose average student profile skews toward people returning to study mid-career rather than straight out of an undergraduate degree.
