Bachelor of Business

Kaplan Business School, Multi-campus (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane), Australia

About this program

The generalist Bachelor of Business at Kaplan is the base version of a degree the school also sells with five bolt-on majors, so it's worth understanding what's actually compulsory before deciding whether the plain version or one of the named variants makes more sense. Only six subjects across the whole three-year degree are core: five foundational units at Level 100 covering business communication, accounting, economics, commercial law and numerical skills, plus a single Level 200 subject on governance, ethics and sustainability. Everything else, all the way through Level 300, is elective, which means this version of the degree is genuinely a choose-your-own-adventure business qualification rather than a management or marketing degree with a different label stapled on.

That structure suits two kinds of students: those who want breadth across accounting, marketing, management and IT without committing to a named major, and those transferring in in with credit from a Diploma of Business or another provider who want to fill out electives around whatever they've already completed. Nine trimesters and 24 subjects gets a full-time student through in three years, with intakes running five times a year (March, May, July, September, November) rather than the usual two-semester cycle, which is a real practical advantage for students who don't want to wait out a gap year to start.

Level 300 also carries the degree's two internship subjects, which give students who haven't locked in a specific career direction the chance to test an industry placement without it being tied to one major. It's an AQF Level 7 qualification, CRICOS-registered, and available at all five KBS campuses (Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney), though the named-major versions of the degree aren't offered everywhere.
