Bachelor of Business (Hospitality and Tourism Management)

Kaplan Business School, Multi-campus (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane), Australia

About this program

This is the outlier in the KBS Bachelor of Business family: instead of accounting, marketing or management electives layered onto the generalist core, students stack hospitality and tourism operations subjects, covering areas like hospitality service management, tourism destination planning, event management and hospitality law. It sits under subject area codes distinct from the rest of the business suite for a reason: tourism and hospitality in Australia is a genuinely separate industry with its own regulatory and seasonal quirks (visa-dependent international student labour, tourism board relationships, hotel and events sector cyclicality) that a generic business degree doesn't really touch.

The shared foundation is identical to every other Bachelor of Business student at KBS: communication, accounting, economics, commercial law and numerical analysis in Level 100, governance/ethics/sustainability at Level 200. Where this major earns its name is in the Level 200-300 stream, which brings in operations-focused units aimed at hotel, resort, tourism board, airline and events employers rather than the corporate management track. The two internship subjects at Level 300 do a lot of work here, since hospitality and tourism hiring in Australia still runs heavily on demonstrated on-the-job experience, and a KBS internship placement in this major is more likely to land in a hotel, resort or tourism operator than a corporate office.

Graduates commonly move into hotel and resort management, event coordination, tourism marketing or destination management roles, and the degree's international student intake (KBS runs large cohorts from source markets like India, Nepal and China) means classroom discussion of hospitality service standards tends to draw on a genuinely global range of hospitality norms rather than an Australia-only frame.
