Master of Data Science
La Trobe University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia
About this program
The Master of Data Science mirrors the IT masters' two-year, 240-credit-point structure, with a 1.5-year accelerated pathway for anyone holding a cognate degree in data science, AI or IT. Core subjects front-load the mathematical and programming groundwork (data exploration and analysis, database fundamentals, introductory programming, mathematics and probability/statistics for data science) before students branch into a genuinely varied elective list covering bioinformatics, sport analytics, big data and cloud computing, and business applications.
The sport analytics option is a distinctive inclusion tied to La Trobe's sport and exercise science strength (the university runs a well-regarded sport science program out of Bundoora), giving data science students a specialisation that isn't just a rebadged AI or business analytics track. Delivery is multi-modal, blending online and on-campus study, which suits the working-professional segment of the cohort who are retraining into data careers mid-career.
