About this program

La Trobe's Master of IT runs on a 240 credit point, two-year structure by default, but drops to 180 points and 18 months for anyone entering with a cognate Australian bachelor's degree in computer science, IT or information systems, a meaningful shortcut that a lot of applicants coming from a non-technical undergraduate background don't get. Foundational subjects in database logic, programming, network engineering and cybersecurity run early, with entrepreneurship and project management folded in as transferable skills rather than treated as an afterthought elective.

Where the degree earns its ACS accreditation is in the specialisation list, which reaches further than a typical Australian IT masters: artificial intelligence, cloud analytics, cybersecurity, Internet of Things, networking, software engineering, and, less commonly offered, quantum information technology. That last one reflects La Trobe's investment in quantum computing research at its Bundoora campus rather than being a token addition to a course list.
