Bachelor of Psychology

This is Macquarie's APAC-accredited undergraduate psychology sequence, and the accreditation detail matters more than it might for other degrees: without a program recognised by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council, graduates can't progress toward provisional or general registration as a psychologist in Australia at all. The three-year degree covers the discipline broadly, from cognitive and biological psychology through developmental, social and abnormal psychology, before students who want to continue toward registration move into the honours year.

That honours year isn't automatic. Admission requires a weighted average grade of 70 across all psychology units and 75 across 300-level psychology units specifically, with a minimum of 72 credit points completed, and it only starts in first semester, running two semesters as an intensive research year built around an individually supervised thesis. For students who don't clear that bar or don't want to pursue registration, the base three-year degree still stands on its own as a psychology qualification, just not one that leads directly into professional practice.

Given how competitive honours entry is nationally in psychology (the accreditation bottleneck limits places at every Australian university, not just Macquarie), students aiming for registration are generally advised to treat the 300-level grade threshold as a first-year planning consideration rather than something to worry about only in third year.
