Bachelor of Commerce
Macquarie University, Sydney, NSW, Australia
About this program
The Bachelor of Commerce at Macquarie starts everyone on the same broad foundation year across accounting, economics, business law and quantitative methods before students pick one or two majors from a list running through accounting, finance, marketing, management, business analytics, actuarial studies, economics and international business, among others. Combining two majors rather than one is common here, and the degree is explicitly built to make that pairing work rather than treating a second major as an awkward add-on, which is one reason it draws students who aren't sure yet whether they want to end up in finance, marketing or something more analytical.
What distinguishes it structurally from a lot of other commerce degrees is the compulsory PACE unit, Professional and Community Engagement, a Macquarie-wide requirement that places students with a real organisation to work on an actual problem for course credit rather than a simulated case study. For commerce students that typically lands as a capstone-adjacent internship experience, so most graduates leave with at least one documented piece of workplace experience already on the resume before they've applied for a graduate role.
Macquarie Business School carries AACSB accreditation, held by a minority of business schools worldwide, which matters for students weighing this degree against a less internationally recognised commerce program when they're thinking about working or studying further afield after graduation.
