Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

Macquarie's engineering honours degree runs on five accredited specialisations (Mechanical, Mechatronic, Software, Civil, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering), all recognised by Engineers Australia, with the Software Engineering stream carrying additional accreditation from the Australian Computer Society. That Engineers Australia stamp is what makes the qualification recognised across North America, and much of Asia and Europe through mutual recognition agreements, which matters for a cohort that includes a substantial number of international students planning careers outside Australia.

What sets the degree apart in practice is Macquarie's PACE program, which the university treats as a genuine point of differentiation rather than a token add-on: engineering students get placed with real firms to work on live technical problems, and Macquarie Park's cluster of engineering, tech and infrastructure employers sitting a short walk from campus makes those placements more accessible here than at universities without an equivalent employment precinct next door. The honours component isn't a bolt-on fourth year either. It's integrated through the degree, culminating in a substantial final-year design or research project specific to the chosen specialisation.

Students can also combine the engineering degree with Commerce or Science as a double degree, which is common enough at Macquarie that dedicated combined-degree pages exist for those pairings, aimed at students who want engineering credentials alongside a business or science major rather than choosing between them.
