Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Telecommunications)

This is the undergraduate, engineering-technologist-level counterpart to MIT's Master of Engineering (Telecommunications): a slightly more applied, hands-on qualification pitched at students who want to work directly with telecommunications infrastructure rather than pursue the more theory-heavy professional engineer accreditation track. The degree runs 24 units totalling 360 credit points, with each standard unit worth 15 credit points, and covers planning, design, implementation and maintenance of telecommunication systems using current hardware and software rather than legacy equipment.

One core unit specifically worth noting is applied mobile and satellite communication systems, covering antennas, microwaves, GPS, and spectrum analysis. That's specialised content that doesn't show up in a generic electrical or IT degree and reflects genuine subject-matter depth in a fairly narrow technical niche. A twelve-week full-time (or 24-week part-time) industry placement is mandatory rather than optional, consistent with MIT's institution-wide emphasis on work-integrated learning, and gives graduates direct workplace telecommunications experience before they finish the degree.

The program is TEQSA-accredited (Australia's higher education regulator), and electives in IT, security, and information systems let students round out the core telecommunications content with adjacent technical skills that broaden employability beyond a single carrier-network-engineer career track.
