Bachelor of Information Technology

Melbourne Polytechnic, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

About this program

The Bachelor of IT here runs on 24 subjects total - 14 core, 6 in a chosen major, 4 electives - and that structure matters because it means students commit to a specialisation (Software Development, Network Development or Business Analytics) without locking themselves out of everything else; electives can be pulled from whichever of the other majors interests them, or from other higher-education courses on offer, by arrangement with the head of discipline.

It's ACS-accredited, which for a lot of applicants is the whole point - it satisfies the skills-assessment pathway that migration agents ask about constantly. Melbourne Polytechnic also has the SAS Institute partnership feeding into the Business Analytics major, so students there can walk out with a SAS Academic Specialisation alongside the degree itself, which is a genuine differentiator against similar bachelor's programs at bigger universities that don't have that industry tie-up.

Students who want to leave early - a change of plan, a job offer, a visa issue - can exit after 16 subjects with an Associate Degree, which is a safety net most three-year IT degrees don't build in explicitly.
