Bachelor of Accounting

Melbourne Polytechnic, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

About this program

When Melbourne Polytechnic launched this course it was the first of its kind in Victoria - an accounting degree built explicitly around sustainable business rather than treating environmental and social accounting as an afterthought elective. Alongside the expected run of taxation, auditing and corporate accounting units, students take environmental law, economics and policy subjects that most accounting degrees skip entirely.

It's dual-accredited with CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand, so graduates are eligible for associate CPA membership straight out of the degree - a genuine professional pathway, not marketing language. Students can also add a Business Analytics major or a Marketing specialisation on top of the core accounting sequence, which is unusual flexibility for what's fundamentally a professional accreditation degree; most accounting programs elsewhere lock students into a rigid sequence with no room to move.

Career outcomes span the expected accountant/auditor/tax consultant roles but also lean toward sustainability-adjacent finance work - ESG reporting, environmental compliance auditing - reflecting the degree's original design brief.
