Bachelor of Agriculture and Technology (Horticulture)

Melbourne Polytechnic, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

About this program

The horticulture major sits inside Melbourne Polytechnic's broader Agriculture and Technology degree, sharing first-year foundation subjects with the viticulture, agronomy and sports turf majors before students specialise. That shared first year means students who aren't sure whether they want production horticulture, amenity horticulture or something closer to agronomy get a genuine look at all of it before committing.

Teaching draws on the same land-based facilities the college uses across its agriculture programs - working farms and growing areas rather than purely classroom instruction - and the emphasis stays practical throughout: plant identification, propagation, irrigation and pest management taught as things you do, not just things you're tested on. Career paths span nursery management, landscape horticulture, parks and gardens roles, and technical horticulture positions with wholesale growers.

Three years full-time, with the same part-time and mixed-mode flexibility offered across the Agriculture and Technology suite for students juggling work or living outside Melbourne.
