Bachelor of Science

Monash University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

About this program

Science at Monash runs on a level-based structure rather than a rigid year-by-year one: six Level 1 units, then ten units across Levels 2 and 3 (at least four of them at Level 3) to complete a major. That flexibility lets students defer choosing a major until they've actually sat in a few different disciplines, which the Faculty leans into by offering more than 30 major options from biology through to mathematics and planetary science.

Monash's science faculty carries some genuinely distinctive research strengths that filter down into undergraduate teaching. Its astrophysics group is part of the international gravitational-wave detection collaborations, and its pharmacology and chemistry departments sit close to the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, one of the larger pharma research groups in the Southern Hemisphere. Students majoring in those areas get exposure to active research labs earlier than at many comparable programs.

Double-degree combinations are common exit points from this course code rather than exceptions. Science paired with Arts, Engineering, Global Studies or Biomedical Science are all well-worn pathways, and the honours year (a separate but linked course) is the standard route into a Monash PhD for science graduates aiming at research careers.
