Bachelor of Nursing

Clinical hours are the backbone of this degree rather than an add-on: students complete substantial placement blocks from second year onward, roughly nine weeks split across several rotations in year two, and around five weeks including intensive care, critical care or surgical placements in year three. Those placements run across metropolitan, regional and rural Victorian sites, including weekends when rostering requires it, which mirrors actual shift-work conditions rather than a sanitised university schedule.

Monash's Nursing and Midwifery department sits within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, giving students some exposure to the same clinical training infrastructure used for the university's medical and allied health cohorts. The degree builds clinical decision-making and communication skills progressively rather than front-loading theory and back-loading practice; coursework and placement run in parallel through most of the course.

Graduates register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) on completion, and the degree is a standard entry point for postgraduate specialisation: critical care, mental health, paediatrics and midwifery graduate-entry programs are common next steps for Monash nursing graduates who want to sub-specialise after registration.
