The distinguishing feature of Murdoch's law degree is SCALES, its award-winning student law clinic: students earn academic credit working actual client matters in areas like human rights law, family law and community legal issues, under supervision, rather than working through hypothetical case studies for the whole degree. That's a genuine point of difference from law schools where "clinical experience" is a mooting exercise dressed up in different language.

The school also foregrounds a social-justice orientation more explicitly than many Australian law programs: human rights and access-to-justice framing shows up across the marketing and, by the school's account, in elective offerings, which shapes who tends to be drawn to Murdoch Law over a more corporate-commercial-focused program. Mooting runs through a purpose-built courtroom facility and is positioned as building advocacy and courtroom presence alongside the clinic work rather than replacing it.

Beyond the clinic, Murdoch's Work Integrated Learning internship program places law students with law firms, government agencies and not-for-profits, which is a fairly standard offering across Australian law schools but is run here with the same WIL infrastructure Murdoch uses for its business and other professional degrees.
