Master of Professional Accounting
Murdoch University, Perth, WA, Australia
About this program
This is Murdoch's conversion masters for non-accounting graduates wanting to move into the profession: a two-year program (or as fast as 16 months for students who can accelerate) that covers the accounting body of knowledge from a standing start rather than assuming a commerce background. It carries direct accreditation weight: graduates meet the academic requirements for CPA Australia associate membership and can enter the Chartered Accountants ANZ program directly, which are the two professional bodies that actually gate accounting careers in Australia.
There's also a less commonly advertised international angle: ACCA accreditation with exemptions covering up to nine exams across the Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills levels, which matters disproportionately for the international student cohort this kind of conversion masters typically attracts, since it shortens the path to a globally recognised qualification alongside the Australian one.
Because it's explicitly a professional-accreditation degree rather than a research or general business masters, the unit list is fairly prescribed by what CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants ANZ require for recognition, leaving less room for elective wandering than, say, an MBA.
