Bachelor of Laws (Honours)

QUT's law degree is a Queensland-facing professional qualification first and a general humanities degree second. The course is built to satisfy the academic requirements for admission as a lawyer in Queensland, which means the compulsory Priestley 11 subjects (contracts, torts, property, criminal law, evidence, equity, and the rest) anchor the structure regardless of which electives students choose around them. The Honours component is built into the four-year degree rather than bolted on, reflecting a fairly common structure among Queensland law schools.

QUT Business School and Law sit close to Brisbane's legal and government precinct, and the faculty runs clinical legal education options: supervised work on real client matters through a legal practice clinic, which is a more hands-on alternative to purely theoretical electives for students wanting practice experience before graduate positions. Moot court and advocacy training are also a visible part of the elective offering.

Most QUT law graduates go on to complete Practical Legal Training (PLT) before admission, since the LLB itself covers the academic but not the practical-skills admission requirement, a distinction worth knowing going in, since the degree alone doesn't make you an admitted lawyer.
