Bachelor of Nursing

The QUT nursing degree is built to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's registration standard, so a fixed number of clinical placement hours (roughly 800 to 840 depending on the placement mix in a given year) sit alongside the classroom and simulation content. This isn't optional or supplementary; it's what makes the degree a registration pathway rather than a health-science degree with a nursing flavour. QUT runs its own clinical simulation labs at Kelvin Grove that mimic hospital ward environments, which is where students first practise procedures before moving into real clinical placements across Brisbane's public and private hospital network.

The course structure moves from foundational anatomy, physiology and pharmacology in first year through medical-surgical nursing, mental health nursing and maternal/child health in the middle years, to more specialised and leadership-oriented content by final year, including a period of near-graduate-level practice placement intended to smooth the transition into a graduate nurse program.

Queensland's public hospital system is the main employer destination for most graduates, and QUT's placement partnerships with Metro North and Metro South health services give students a reasonably direct line into graduate program applications at those services.
