Bachelor of Education (Primary)
Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, QLD, Australia
About this program
QUT's primary teaching degree runs across four years and is built to satisfy the professional experience hours the Queensland College of Teachers requires for full registration, meaning the practicum components aren't an add-on but a structural part of every year of the course, starting with observation-style placements in first year and building to a substantial supervised block in final year. Curriculum content covers the full spread of primary subject areas (literacy, numeracy, science, HASS, health and PE, the arts) alongside pedagogy, child development and increasingly inclusive-education content reflecting Queensland's push on differentiated classrooms.
QUT's education faculty has a long-standing relationship with Queensland state and Catholic school systems for placements, which matters practically since most graduates end up teaching in Queensland schools and the professional networks built during placement often lead directly to graduate teaching positions. Literacy and numeracy testing (the LANTITE requirement) sits outside the degree itself but QUT builds preparatory support into the course.
Students wanting a specific subject specialisation for upper-primary or middle-years teaching can pick relevant elective sequences, but the degree is fundamentally a generalist primary qualification rather than a subject-specialist pathway.
