Diploma of Business
South Metropolitan TAFE, Perth, WA, Australia
About this program
The Diploma of Business at South Metro TAFE is the deliberately broad option in the college's business suite. Where the Diploma of Accounting and Diploma of Hospitality Management lock students into a named discipline from the start, this qualification builds general business administration, project coordination and leadership competencies that apply across office environments regardless of sector.
That breadth is the point rather than a shortcoming: students who aren't sure yet whether they want to specialise into accounting, marketing, HR or operations get a year to build transferable skills and figure out direction, and the qualification is commonly used as a stepping stone into supervisory or team-leader roles in whatever industry a student happens to already be working in, rather than requiring a career change to make use of it.
As with the other business-suite diplomas at the college, there's no mandatory industry placement; assessment relies on workplace simulations and, where students are already employed, real workplace projects and evidence drawn from their existing job.
