Diploma of Community Services

Entry into this diploma (CHC52021) generally expects a Certificate IV in Community Services already completed, or equivalent industry experience: it's pitched at people who've already had some exposure to the sector rather than a first qualification for someone entirely new to community work. The approximately 240 hours of mandatory work placement is arranged by the college itself rather than left to students to source, and comes with its own logbook system that both the student and the host workplace need to complete.

Because placements put students into direct contact with vulnerable community members, the compliance requirements are more involved than for most other diplomas at this level: a Working With Children Check and National Police Clearance are required before placement starts, and students must be 18 or over to go on placement at all, an industry-wide requirement rather than something specific to this college.

Graduates typically move into case work, community support, disability services or youth work roles, and the diploma level is often the practical ceiling for direct-service roles before further specialisation (such as a related degree) becomes necessary for case management or supervisory positions.
